Monitoring the Renovation and Reconstruction of the Mayor's Office via Crowdsourcing

Transparency International Georgia will facilitate the monitoring of public funds financing the reconstruction and renovation of the Mayor's Office by empowering civil society organizations, media and the public at large to participate in the process. Transparency International Georgia's main objectives are twofold: firstly, to provide an environment in which all interested parties might participate and contribute equally in the process of monitoring public funds; and secondly, to hold the authorities accountable to the public in its use of public funds.
By targeting how funds were spent on the construction and renovation of the Mayor's Office, Transparency International Georgia works toward a tangible goal that either supports or refutes the doubts that currently circulate among the Georgian population. Including all stakeholders in the process by new, innovative and interactive web-based forms of crowd-sourcing, the implementation of this project engages and empowers the public to easily dedicate their time with concrete results. Through these new technologies and different social networking initiatives, increasingly larger parts of society will be engaged in public finance monitoring.
Unfortunately, the project failed as the Tbilisi City Hall repeatedly refused to respond to TI Georgia's requests for release of public documents. TI Georgia took the case to court and won, however the court ruling did not set a deadline by which TI Georgia had to be provided with the required information.
