Analyzing Competition in Georgia
TI Georgia’s Analyzing Competition in Georgia project was launched in September 2011 and is implemented through a GEL 83,000 grant provided by USAID through East West Management Institute’s G-PAC program. The project is due for completion in summer 2012. The project focuses on the important issue of competition regulation in Georgia. While the issue has feature prominently various public discussions in recent years, there is very little evidence-based research available on the subject at present. For this reason, TI Georgia has undertaken to (1) review Georgia’s legal framework and compare it against international best practices and to (2) examine the current state of affairs in selected markets to determine whether the frequently-made allegations of monopolistic practices are borne out in practice. TI Georgia is planning to produce three analytical reports on the subject of competition, as well as a number of articles and blogs devoted to ongoing developments in this field.
