Property Seizure by Prosecutor’s Office in Sairme
Transparency International Georgia publishes second blog referring how representatives of local Prosecutor’s Office pressured Sairme population during 2009-2010 in order to concede their land properties to the state.
In 2010, approximately 20 local property owners in Sairme gave their property to the state during one week period. Transparency International Georgia together with its partner organizations mentioned this issue in the report which was published in 2012. In our video footage, victims talk how employees of Prosecutor’s office, specifically Prosecutor Kakha Svanidze pressured them. As it turned out, Kakha Svanidze personally pressured them to give their land to the state as a gift.Teimuraz Kokhodze, former Majoritarian Member of Parliament from Baghdati is also involved in the case of Sarime. Finally, he registered as the owner of confiscated land properties at Public Registry.
Lawyers and regional offices employees of Transparency International Georgia are actively involved in finding and researching similar issues. During last week, our representative met numerous victims in several regions of West Georgia. Our organization will publish additional information and interviews in the coming days. As soon as Transparency International Georgia summarizes all received information, we will immediately appeal to the Prosecutor’s Office.
Due to large numbers of similar facts, we call for Georgian government to establish special commission in short period which will investigate cases of property rights violation. Our organization has relevant materials and assertions on property rights violations. We are ready to take active participation in establishment and working of special commission.
