The Association Agreement between the European Union and Georgia was signed in Brussels today.

The Association Agreement is a most important step on Georgia’s road of European integration and marks the beginning of a new phase in the relations between the European Union and Georgia.

The Association Agreement implies acceleration of institutional reforms in the field of democratic governance and rule of law, development of trade and economic relations, as well as moving closer to European standards in areas such as environment protection, food safety and others. The Association Agreement will therefore undoubtedly have a positive impact on the life of every Georgian citizen.

At the same time, the Association Agreement imposes great responsibility on the Georgian authorities, civil society, business sector, media and other groups, since only a collective effort of the entire society will make it possible to implement the agreement’s commitments and move closer to European standards.
