Mestia City Council Member's Company Receives Procurement Contracts
Builder 21 Ltd., a company associated with Bachuki Nakani, the Chairperson of the Commission for Economic Issues and Tourism Development at the Mestia City Council, was awarded GEL 1,212,404 worth of local procurement contracts, including GEL 578,989, after Bachuki Nakani had been elected to the position.
Builder 21 Ltd. exclusively submits applications for tenders announced by the Mestia municipality. Of the eight tenders, it won six, and in all those six cases, the company was the only bidder. The contracts granted to it totaled GEL 490,591 in value. Builder 21 Ltd. won three of those tenders, with a combined value of GEL 305,925, he transfered his own part for free to his brother, after Bachuki Nakani had been elected as a member of Mestia City Council.
Additionally, 10 simplified procurements were grated to Builder 21 Ltd., including nine from the Mestia municipality and one from Public School No. 1 in Mestia. The contracts with a totaled GEL 721,813 in value. Four of those simplified procurements, worth of GEL 272,973, were awarded to the company after Bachuki Nakani had been elected to Mestia City Council.
Transparency International Georgia calls on the Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service to examine the involvement of Builder 21 Ltd. in Mestia municipality procurements to see whether there are any indications of potential corruption.
