Repressions Against "Daitove" and the Entire Civil Society Enter a New Phase

01 February, 2025

Bidzina Ivanishvili continues terrorizing civil activists and civil society. Today, it became known that searches were conducted at the homes of two leaders of the group "Daitove"—Ilia Glonti and Nancy Voland. Shortly after, reports emerged that Ilia Glonti was arrested and taken to a police station. Additionally, civil activist Isako Devidze has also been detained. It appears that the regime is leading the country into a new phase of repression.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, "Within the framework of an investigation initiated under Article 225, Part 1, and Article 226 of the Criminal Code, regarding the organization of group violence and the organization of group actions, law enforcement officers are conducting investigative measures across various locations in Tbilisi. As part of these measures, personal and home searches are being carried out based on a court order."

This is not the first time that Ivanishvili's law enforcement agencies have illegally persecuted the "Daitove" group and other activist groups. At the beginning of 2025, Transparency International Georgia published an analytical article about the illegality of searches conducted at the homes of the "Daitove" group leaders in early December 2024. At that time, the de facto government did not dare to arrest the group's leaders or bring charges against them.

It is evident that the protests planned by activist groups cause significant discomfort for Ivanishvili's government. A clear example of this is the rapid changes made regarding strategic objects during a government session, which occurred after the regime learned that activist groups had announced a protest involving the blockage of a major road.

Transparency International Georgia condemns the violent policies of the illegal regime against peaceful civil activists, which will only further deepen the country’s political crisis. We call on Ivanishvili and other figures of the regime to stop the repression against their own citizens, release the regime’s hostages, and announce new elections.
