Human Rights and Justice
Transparency International Georgia (TI Georgia) is launching a new project aimed at strengthening the justice system by ensuring transparency. The project will be implemented on three different levels:
-
Increasing transparency of the judiciary system in Georgia via the creation of special public online platforms. All court decisions will be published on these platforms and sorted into categories.
-
Promoting transparency of the plea bargaining system by developing an open web platform for publishing statistics online. This platform will allow the public to explore, visualize, and compare, yearly figures for such key data as the amount of money transferred to the state budget as a result of plea bargains.
-
Supporting the creation of a new arbitration system under the Chamber of Commerce. To make this new arbitration institution popular and effective in Georgia, TI Georgia will (i) provide assistance with the creation of the institutional/legal framework and development of the regional arbitration through its participation in the working group; (ii) hire an international expert to assist with the drafting of relevant rules; (iii) organize a study-visit to the Permanent Court of Arbitration and the Netherlands Arbitration Institute; (iv) organize a conference where the actual results will be revealed to the public.
The project’s duration is from June, 2013 to May, 2014, and has been made possible by the financial support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Georgia. A total amount allocated for the Justice and Human Rights project is EUR 67,535.
