The Georgian ambassador to Lithuania, Salome Shapakidze, failed to declare her real estate, her husband’s real estate, and business

Salome Shapakidze, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of Lithuania, fails to disclose her and her husband’s real estate properties and business activities in her 2023 asset declaration.

Violation 1: Salome Shapakidze's declaration does not mention five properties that she owns:

  1. Agricultural land in the village Navdaraantkari, Mtskheta Municipality - 600 sq.m.
  2. Agricultural land and a building in the village Navdaraantkari, Mtskheta Municipality - 1500 sq.m. and 204 sq.m.
  3. Property in Tbilisi, Besiki Street - 192.50 sq.m.
  4. Property in Tbilisi, Besiki Street - 181.01 sq.m.
  5. Property in Tbilisi, Besiki Street - 30.45 sq.m.

It is worth mentioning that no information about these properties has been provided in the declarations for 2022 and 2021 either.

Violation 2: Salome Shapakidze's declaration also does not disclose property in the Senaki municipality - 3757.00 sq.m.

Violation 3: Shapakidze does not specify any business activities in her husband’s possession. According to the Business Registry, Salome Shapakidze’s husband, Giorgi Kankava, is the director and owner of 100% of shares in Caucasus Med Trade LLC. In addition, Shapakidze has not declared three additional companies in which Kankava is a director: Public Credit LLC, GI Trans LLC, and Synergy LLC.

According to the law of Georgia on fight against corruption, Salome Shapakidze, as a public official, is obliged to disclose complete information in her asset declaration.

Transparency International Georgia calls on the Anti-Corruption Bureau to look into Salome Shapakidze’s asset declaration and respond appropriately to violations in accordance with Georgian law.
