NGOs and Media Entities Present Amendments to Party Financing Rules
One of the most important challenges that the Georgian government and society face today is to ensure that the 2012 elections are held in a fair and democratic environment.
We hope thatthe Georgian Government will do everything feasible to take into consideration the recomendations made bythe OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights(ODIHR) andthe Council of Europein order for the elections to beconducted according to international standards.
Representatives of Georgian NGOs and Media concur with theopinion that President Saakashvili expressed during The State of the Nation Address on 28 February 2012 about deploying international election observation mission to monitor the pre-election environment in Georgia .
We would like torecommend the deployment of an OSCE/ODIHR long-term Election Observation Mission to Georgia at the earliesttime possible, since professional and impartial monitoring of theelectoral environment is extremely important not only during the two months of pre-election period but also throughout the whole election year.
